Enlighten intends to expand its operations into the neighbouring refugee camps of Gaza over the coming 18 months as well as developing staff and volunteers' skills in order to increase the positive impact upon the Bureij community.
In doing so, the existing Bureij centre will operate as the administrative training 'hub'. All current courses will be maintained, while additional tools - such as digital cameras - will be integrated in order to widen the scope of the training available.
Communicate
Enlighten has concentrated its efforts thus far in Gaza and plans to open several more centres in Gaza's refugee camps imminently. This makes sense as the trustees are based in
Gaza and the Bureij centre is being developed as the 'hub' for other centres.
However one of the key aims of Enlighten (refer to history) is to facilitate for Palestinians to communicate accross political borders via the internet - hence the name of the project communicate.
There are two elements to this longer term Enlighten project the first is to establish links with other similar NGOs - this is already being done. The second is for Enlighten to work towards establishing its own centres in the West Bank and Lebanon.
Any future centre would be based on the success of the Bureij centre. From the outset in Bureij Enlighten has worked directly with the local community at every stage, regularly inviting all sectors of the camp to the centre, employing local people purchasing local furnature and most importantly giving the local executive committee full decision making powers.
